I purchased this camcorder in March 2008 from Abe's of Maine. All of a sudden the lens began clicking and grinding this week and finally the auto focus failed. Sony is repairing it through the warranty but what a disappointment after spending a grand. On a plus, the camcorder does take fantastic video and is user friendly. No problem saving video to my computer hard drive and doing basic editing with the supplied software.
As with all things digitally recorded in HDD, one of the key factors in determining quality is "Mbps Recording Rating". We can have a huge sensor, out of this world lens and a microwave in a camcorder but if it records in low Mbps then its pointless.
Whats the Mbps rating on each of the recording modes? Well it's back to R&D I guess...
I was at Best Buy recently and they had a JVC Digital Camera for 269.99 on clearance. It wasn't fancy, but took excellent video and the sound was decent. My kids cell phone does what the Mino does.
